Turning Trash into Treasure: The Story of b-Home Studio
March 4, 2025
One of our writers recently shared a fascinating article from Gothamist about b-Home Studio, an unconventional sculpture park in upstate New York made entirely from salvaged materials.
Created by installation artist Matt Bua, this 26-acre property in Catskill is home to more than 30 structures, including a two-story tower covered in vinyl records, a dirt-bag bunker, and a Hobbit-like cabin. For nearly two decades, Bua has built and shaped this off-grid sanctuary with a simple rule—everything, except the fasteners, had to be made from found materials.
Now, Bua is ready to move on, listing the property for $269,000 and hoping to pass it on to someone who will appreciate and continue his vision.
While the work will never truly be finished, as Bua says, “It’s time to travel on.” His story is a testament to creativity, sustainability, and the power of making something extraordinary from what others discard.
